Cortez, CO to Kayenta, AZ

We woke to find it snowing, but warm enough that nothing stayed on the ground. Scott says its the first (and last) time the SOCAL cruiser has seen snow.

Some snow stuck around on higher elevations

Not long into the morning we find 4 Corners closed

 and that saved a few minutes. I hear the actual 4 corners isn't where the monument says, but I don't think that matters a whole lot to most people going there.

Visibility is the best we've seen.

The dust storm followed by a nice wet snow really cleared the air.

And note how little traffic there is!

I started to see little, mini sand dunes all over and figured we must be getting close.

Seems like there is nothing but sandstone in southern Utah and northern Arizona!

Now we must be getting closer.

I mean, these are pretty impressive.

And finally we arrive at Kayenta just south of Monument Valley.

Early Morning - Day 2

Day two started early, but not nearly as dark and early as day 1 - or at least it didn't seem so early...We stopped at a view point or two. This was the first.

And second

Apparently I-70 follows in interesting geologic fold of layers and we are about to head down the edge of the fold.  Some laers erode more easily than others making for some nice scenes.

Looking back to where the fold heads downward.

Plenty of miles where the scenery looks somewhat like this.

And finally the approach to Canyonlands NP

On the Road!

An early morning start from Irvine, CA and we pushed to get all the way into St George, Utah for lunch.  This is just outside St George.

Don't know for sure if that is Quail Lake up ahead, but it sure is nice scenery.

We thought St George was small. Turns out it was the largest town and heaviest traffic we would see for several hundred miles!

Getting closer to Zion

Snow! That was unexpected yet pleasant to see.
